The facility was the first nuclear power plant to be constructed by Southern Company in the state of Alabama. Construction of the plant began in 1970 with the first reactor unit coming on-line in 1977, followed by the second unit in 1981. The plant is named after the former President and Chief Executive Officer of both Alabama Power and Southern Nuclear, Joseph McConnell Farley. It is the only nuclear plant wholly owned by Southern Company or by one of its subsidiaries. [1]
The Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant is located in Baxley, Georgia. Construction began in 1968 on Georgia's first nuclear power plant. The first unit came on-line in 1975 and the second unit in 1979.
